A Note from Brian: On Pride
As we launch into the final weekend of Pride, I want to thank everyone who has helped us these last few weeks. We’ve attended dozens of events, met hundreds of new people, and handed out thousands of pieces of literature. We’ve engaged a lot of new people, and with only 82 days until the September 13 primary, our office is buzzing.
I want to personally invite you to join us this Sunday to march with us at Pride. It is an important chance to stand together, to show the strength of our message and our commitment to full equality for each and every American.
Although we’ve come a long way in our struggle for equal rights, we still face many, many challenges.
This week the NYPD confirmed that anti-gay violence is on the rise in New York City, up 32% this past year alone, while the rates of other hate crimes have remained stagnant.
We have a record number of LGBT homeless youth living on our streets, where they are often forced into dangerous behavior or end up the victims of violence.
Young people in our schools face discrimination, harassment and violence, and yet we've been unable to enact legislation to protect them.
We don't have marriage equality and same-sex couples still routinely face discrimination in obtaining the same benefits straight couples take for granted.
We have not done enough to combat the City’s crystal meth epidemic, and we continue to see rising rates of HIV infection, particularly in our youth and among gay men of color and African-American women.
So please join us this Sunday, to celebrate how far we’ve come, and help us draw attention to just how far we still have to go.

Get Brian on the Ballot!
We've launched full throttle into petitioning and it is going very well. Thanks to the scores of supporters who have helped in the first few weeks! We've done a lot, but there's still a lot more to do.
Over the next few weeks we're going to be collecting thousands more signatures from across the Borough to get Brian on the ballot, and we still need your help! There's a lot to do, both in the office and on the street, so be sure to sign up here, email Dave Rubin, E4M's Field Direcor, or call us at (212)725-4466.
Thanks again to everyone for their support.

Brian in the DFNYC Run-Off!
Democracy for New York City, the local group of Howard Dean's Democracy for America, announced this week that there would be a run-off between the three top finishers in their race for Manhattan Borough President - and Brian is one of the three.
The momentum this campaign is generating is becoming more and more evident. Brian has consistently placed in the top slots in nearly every club endorsement vote. What makes this finish so special is that DFNYC is a really exciting group, committed to change.
We’ll be posting more info on the run-off soon, and please remember to email dave@brianellner.com to help petition today!

Keep on the Pressure
There are reports today that private developers are making moves to take on the $300 million the Jets now need after the Public Authorities Control Board voted down the stadium's State funding.
We have to be vigilant, and keep up public pressure focused on saying "No" to the West Side Stadium.
Don't stop now - tell everyone to sign the petition at ManhattanPriorities.com.

The Beginning of the End, or Here We Go Again
Today could actually be the day. The Public Authorities Control Board - the last entity whose approval is needed for the stadium to move forward - is scheduled to finally vote today (Monday). Reports are that negotiations have gone on all weekend, and that no compromise has been reached, but that the vote may gone on anyways. The vote also comes on the heels of bad news about New York's Olympic bid from the IOC.
If you haven't yet, be sure to tell everyone you know about the online petition at ManhattanPriorities.com, and ask them to sign up now and take a public stand against this insane plan to build a 75,000 seat stadium at the intersection of the Port Authority and the Lincoln Tunnel. We are down to the final moments of this struggle when everyone's support is so vital.
Brian has been fighting this plan for over a year. When he started people told him that he was crazy to fight a project that was so 'inevitable.' But Brian's career is full of victories in battles no one else thought could be won. He has fought hard for this borough's priorities as a candidate, and he'll fight just as hard as Borough President.
So be sure to tell your friends about ManhattanPriorities.com and ask them to stand with Brian at this important moment.
John, E4M Policy Director
P.S. And don't forget to join other supporters of Brian's campaign tonight (Monday) at 6:30 PM for our second office party. (See above for more info.) Petitioning starts Tuesday! So come on out!
